The number of 5G smartphones will double by 2021

Qualcomm estimates that the number of 5G smartphones sold by 2021 will reach 450 million devices, double that of 2020.

Earlier, the world’s largest mobile chip manufacturer had estimated that there would be 200 million 5G phones by 2020.

According to Qualcomm, 5G connectivity technology will be applied to areas of life faster than 4G thanks to China soon deploying new generation of mobile networks and the diversity of 5G modem chip market.

Android Central commented, the 125% sales growth in just one year, from 2020 to 2021, is “not small”. In fact, the amount of 5G phones that have been commercialized so far is quite limited. For example, Verizon expects to reach 5G in 30 cities by the end of the year, but US users only have four device options compatible with 5G, including the Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, OnePlus 7 Pro 5G and LG V50 5G.

As 5G applications and utilities become more widely available next year, manufacturers must default to adding 5G modems to allow flagship models to connect wirelessly at an exceptional speed, rather than Provides limited 5G version. However, carriers also need to build infrastructure that meets the standards of 5G technology. This page said that 5G smartphones still need time to become as popular as 4G / LTE devices today.
